Job Description
The 100 year old stone retaining wall was leaning, had many areas of significant cracks and it was considered by many as a danger to collapse. Numerous steel plates had been installed throughout the years but appeared to be failing. The wall height is 8’ and approximately 66’ of the wall was to be stabilized and repaired.
The engineer’s report for the project recommended soil nails as a solution to the failing wall. With a wall height of 8’, and a length of 66’ of wall to be stabilized, the estimated number of soil nails would approach 22 nails with 22 holes to be cored in the unstable wall. Levelift Foundations, LLC proposed stabilizing the wall by using tie-back anchors. Leaving the wall in place, eight (8) Manta-Ray tie-backs were installed through the face of the wall. Carbon fiber reinforcing was bonded to the face of the existing stone wall to reinforce the sections at each tie-back. Additional drains were cored at the base of the wall and the entire surface was parged to protect the CFRP straps from UV degradation.
